How to clear out your wardrobe - my three essential tips!

#noexcuses

Cleaning out the wardrobe is something you really should do every now and then. But most of the time we cleary do the opposite: We shop, online or in store, like mad women and shove it into the last tiny space our wardrobe i willing to offer. I know for sure I am guilty. But If we reconsider the fact, that no one needs so much things in life, we maybe are willing to sacrifice two hours on a rainy day (like today for me) and get rid of some things. By get rid I mean NOT to throw something away. There are several options when you want to give away your unwanted things. Women shelters or  hospitals are happy to take them, Also you can sell them on apps like depop. Or really old school: flea market.

Oder ganz old school: Flohmarkt.

There is a thing called the "Capsule Wardrobe". It is a theory of a minimalistic wardrobe which in most cases only contains 37 pieces. Shoes and bags included! Even though I'm far far away from that lifestyle, I really am trying to get closer to it. Key to organizing my wardrobe is to put everything out at first and then just put back in things I wear A LOT. So my favourite things, the two jeans I wear almost everyday, my favourite blazer and this old shirt I love and wear so much even though I had it for a decade. It might have a hole in it, too. But who cares, I wear it anyways. If I am honest, I probably could stop there and live without all the other things. But I like options. But I will give you three easy steps to find out if to keep an item or get rid of it:

1. Do you have a better alternative?
Sometimes you can esaily admit, that you don't like those neon-orange denimshorts anymore, but sometimes you can't let go. But you have to rethink: Do you have a better option, you would rather go for? So for the shorts in my case, I would always go with my blue, white or black denimshorts instead. Get rid!

2. When did you last wore it?
That's a classic and it works. You find something and can't even remember you owned it? If you haven't worn it in such a long time, there is a reason. You love the pattern of the dress, but you never wear it because you can't wear it with a bra. Well, you will not do the hustle in the future. Trust me, get rid!

3. Imagine a friend asking you to list all your clothes in five minutes.
You will never get everything together (except you are one of those capsule wardrobe ladies of course, congratulations if that's the case). What you don't remember, you probably will not miss anyways. Get rid!

Also: Weg damit!

The biggest advice I can give you is: Say NO. No, you will not suddenly wear that dress you own for five years and never wore it to the next party. No, you will not fit in that old jeans again that you've bought when you were thirteen. And no, those black and red checkered Vans slip-ons will not get back on trend in the next twenty years. Or never. It is that simple.

Mein wichtigster Tipp kommt jetzt: Sag NEIN. Niemals. So einfach ist das.

The best thing about decluttering your clothes is the final result. Having a fresh looking wardrobe at the end is such a good feeling. And it will be the first time in ages you actually have space for something new. Plus when you pull a thing out there will not be twenty more shirts falling out! I love to have my clothes in two stacks, on one side I have all my light coloured things and on the other side I have everything black or almost black. I know, I'm not that into colours.

And then there is me in my comfy clothes doing a little cheeky mirror selfie. So 2011. You know how hard it is to take bloggeresque photos whilst stuck in a mountain of ugly old clothes? So I hope you don't mind it is not a post to look at but to read. I really tried :D
